Beer Man Spur
Former railroad station on the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha
Railroad.
Blyburg
Town did not last long enough for a post office identification. Platted by
Colonel Plyel and named for John Bly, settler on September 20, 1856.
Brady's Crossing
Mail served from Jackson. Located one mile west and north of present
Willis. Town named for an early settler, John Brady, centered around St.
John's Catholic Church and general store. Town later moved one-fourth mile
north near the North Western Railroad tracks. Name changed to Vista when
shipments were confused with Brady's Island in Lincoln County.
Coburn
Former junction for two railroads--Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha
Railroad and the Burlington Railroad west of Dakota City.
Covington
Post office established March 19, 1858; annexed to South Sioux City on May
1, 1893. Town originally called Harney City, the Newport and finally
Covington.
Crockwell
Paper town which never got beyond the platting stage. Probably named for
Dr. J.D.M. Crockwell, early settler of Dakota County.
Dakota City
Peak population in 1990 was 1,740. Post office established January 28,
1856. Dakota City Land Company platted and surveyed the town site in 1856.
Deer Creek
Post Office established September 17, 1859; discontinued September 15, 1960.
Named for the creek on which is was located.
