Cemeteries

There are a total of 20 cemeteries in Dakota County. Some are public cemeteries and others are located on private land. There are a few that are abandoned due to location, accessibility, and lack of upkeep. In 1980, the tombstone inscriptions in all of the Dakota County cemeteries were recorded.

Friends Church Cemetery Located in the western part of the county near Jackson.
Taylor Family Plot Located on a hill above Taylor Cemetery. This cemetery is fenced in and overgrown with weeds.
Hoyt Cemetery Situated on a bluff near Homer and overlooking a beautiful valley. It is a steep climb, but the view is spectacular.
Boals Cemetery On the Old Boals Homestead west of Dakota City. Descendents of original settlers still reside here.
Hilltop(Epidemic)Cemetery Located on a hill south of Hubbard. Many children with diseases are buried in this cemetery.
Jopp Cemetery 5 miles east of Emerson on a gravel road. Needs repair and upkeep.
Woods Cemetery Small family plot that has been fenced in and located by Emerson.
Roost Cemetery Small cemetery with only one tombstone and located 4 miles west of South Sioux City.
Danish Cemetery Located on a farm outside of Jackson. Only accessible through corn fields and steep hills.
Omaha Creek Valley Formerly known as Potter Cemetery and located 2 miles south of Homer. Large cemetery with many veterans from Civil War, WWI, WWII, Korea & Vietnam.
St. Cornelius Cemetery Located on the north edge of Homer.
Green Valley Cemetery On Wigle Creek Road outside of Homer.
Fiddler Creek Cemetery Located on south of Hubbard on Fiddler Creek Road.
St. John's
Catholic Cemetery
Over 125 years old and located outside of Jackson.
Hubbard Cemetery Located high in the hills outside of Hubbard.
Taylor Cemetery Situated in the bluffs 8 miles southwest of Dakota City.
Dakota City Cemetery Located in Dakota City.
St. Michael Cemetery Established in 1948 and located west of South Sioux City along Old Highway 20.
Cedar Heights Also known as Bridenbaugh Family Plot.
Sand Ridge Cemetery Totally abandoned and destroyed.
